How hungry are you?

This is definitely a question we should all ask ourselves.  The amount of food that goes to waste is phenomenal. Recently,  Oprah aired a show of people who just collect refuse to survive and it really hit home how privileged we are.  People are dying everyday from hunger and here we are  just throwing away food.

A friend of mine just sent me this video - I loved its simplicity and the stark truth of it all.  Please watch this when you have the time:

Synopsis: This film is about the hunger and poverty brought about by Globalization. There are 10,000 people dying everyday due to hunger and malnutrition. This short film shows a forgotten portion of the society. The people who live on the refuse of men to survive. What is inspiring is the hope and spirituality that never left this people.

The next time you order food,  just spare a thought if you can actually finish it. Thats my 2 pence worth...

  2. I watched the video, it is a tragedy ! So much food is wasted in the US, it's appalling .... Yah watching the Freegans was very interesting. In Asia generally our attitudes to food is still about not wasting, about thrift and not over buying. When I visited a friend in Seattle, seriously could not believe her larder : it was bigger than my bathroom, stacked floor to ceiling, jars of coffee, canned and packaged foods, bottled drinks. The freezer had enough meat that looked like two whole cows. All that for just one dad, one mom and one teen son. I actually wondered how much of it they will eat, how much will expire, they would have to throw out .....

  3. Thanks for coming by Tessah.

Very true Aida, I was shocked too. I only goto the market once a week an then rest I add on ad hoc so that I dont waste food. Appalling isn't it and I cried when I saw the kids so happy to be able to rummage through garbage for food. Sigh... My heart broke...
