FFC Altered Lantern

This is my second altered item for Far Flung Craft.  I have been wondering what to create that would be unusual and that would hopefully attract some attention at the CHA.  It's going to be Chinese New Year soon and the answer was staring at me in the face!  Why don't we make a chinese lantern with these beautiful peranakan papers?

And thus,  this lantern was "born".  Made a few mistakes when I was making this but it was all in the fun and creative process and I enjoyed it very much.

Materials used:

FFC Peranakan Papers,  Prima flowers,  Lace,  Jewels,  Blings,  Tassel and Pearls from local haberdashery,  MR pom pom trim,  Chipboard,  Thickers alphas,  UHU glue and 3d Pop up dots.

FFC Altered Canvas

Its the last day of CHA today and its been a great opportunity for me and my friends - Jessy,  Yatie and Nadhrah to design for Far Flung Kraft and for our work to hit CHA!  This is exciting news indeed for Malaysian scrappers and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Kristy.  Our only hope is that you will do well at CHA this year!

Between the Xmas holidays, my surgery and being sick,  I have not done much scrapping nor any altered item.  I was very nervous how this was going to turn out when I first started but I think it turned out fine.  Here is an altered canvas by using the FFC Batik papers.  They are stunning to the max!

Materials used:  12x 12 Canvas,  red and white acrylic paints,  FFC batik papers,  Chipboard of assorted sizes,  Prima felties,  Beads from Lincraft Australia,  7-Gypsies Gaffer tape,  Tim Holtz metals,  Lil Davis Bottle caps,  Assorted Charms from local shops,  Fairy wings from Lincraft Australia,  Mica bits,  Pebbles,  Pearls from local shops and lots of Helmar glue.

Another milestone for me

Scrapbooking wise,  last year ended with a high after having Aida over for a class and this year it has started early with meeting Iris in person.  I feel that all my scrapbooking dreams have finally been realised.  Its a high that I want to be in for a while now.  Scrapping wise, yes I have been scrapping - just that I have not been blogging.  Will do so soon,.  Here is a picture of the oh-v-sweet Iris and we would love to have her back anytime!  Come back soon Iris.

Dusting off the cobwebs here

I am finding it harder to blog nowadays - total lack of motivation for no apparent reason.  Scrapping wise - I have been scrapping and I find myself procastinating taking pictures and blogging.  Sigh...  Must get myself out of this current rut of mine.

This is a layout which I made for Momoyo - just playing with their brads and buttons. A simple layout but just having fun and trying to re-adjust myself back to scrapping.

Healthwise,  it has been the doldrums today.  I was called into school just before lunch to pick the older one.  She was running a temperature and the doctor confirmed it.  By night she is definitely wheezing and I just put her on the nebuliser.  She could not have gotten sick at the worst possible time as I am due for my procedure tomorrow.  Hope she gets better and if not,  she will need to be sent to the hospital for another round of consultation.  Sigh... I am not sure how I can handle that especially after my procedure and I will be unable to drive.  Wish me luck ladies.

Materials used:
Bazzill cs,  SSF pps,  SSF cards,  SSF chipboards,  DMC embroidery thread,  Momoyo brads and buttons and ribbons,  Thickers alphas and 3d pop up dots.

Imperfect Vision

It's one of my fears that my kids take after my bad eyesight genes.  When the fears were realised with Sean,  I was quite miffed.  Secretly,  I was praying that they would take after their dad's perfect eyesight. But that was not to be.. So Cest La Vie...  Here is a simple layout about Sean's spectables.  I tried to scrap the layout in the shape of an eye :)

Materials used:
Scarlet Lime Kit,  SSF pp,  Thickers Alphas,  Making Memories Sticker Alphas and Black grosgrain ribbon from local haberdashery.

Scrap-It-Lah January 2010 Challenge

Another new year, another new beginning at Scrap-It-Lah.  We are expanding and we have currently added another 3 more new DTs to our site. They are my talented friends - Nadhrah,  Yatie and Nadia.  However,  it is time to bid goodbye to Nilla who have supported us for the past few months and whom was with SIL since its conception.  Thanks so much Nilla.

Jessy provided us with a beautiful sketch this time.  My scrapping mojo eluded me and thus this is a very last minute layout from me.  More details in the SIL blog.

Materials used:
Scarlet Lime kit,  Thickers alphas,  Prima Felt Matties,  Pearl blings,  DMC thread and loads of 3d pop up dots.

Warning - Photos overload - Shanghai Trip

Gosh - it's been another 2 weeks since I have updated my blog.  I had a vrey busy few days 2 weeks before end of term running around and we were off to Shanghai a day after the school holidays started and it did not give me any time to breathe.  Being so used to the 35 degrees here,  Shanghai at -2 degrees was certainly a rude shock.  Coupled with the dirty air etc,  yours truly came down with bronchitis as I was really exhausted and having not rested before the vacation didn't help at all.

Here are some photos to share on our trip.

The beautiful sunrise before we landed in Shanghai.

Our first view of Shanghai whilst leaving the airport.

Yuyuan - one of the largest privately owned Gardens in China.  Barrage of shops selling food,  handicrafts etc in there and you have to pay in order to access the gardens.

Yummy dim sum at a restaurant outside the garden.  Funny concept though - the higher you go - meaning higher floor you go,  the more expensive the dim sums.

Inside the garden,  the 2 huddled to keep warm in the cold temp.

Another scene in the garden.

Sean mucking around for a playful shot.

Outside - a pedlar selling some local food.  We were not adventurous enough to try.

All around us,  Shanghai is on a construction frenzy to get itself ready for the World Expo 2010 in May. The whole city is shrouded in DUST and loads of pollutants and on most of the days we were there,  it was only gray skies. :(

A quieter change of scenery - Suzhou.  It is located 1.5 hours out of Shanghai and another tourist trip.  But we were glad to get out of Shanghai and have a bit of clear skies.

More beautiful gardens but check out the water on the lake.  The top of it is ice.  Yes, it was another cold wintery day.

The driver brought us to this pagoda.

I loved all the old ladies that we encountered on this trip.  I find that they had very expressive faces but these were the only 2 photos I could have taken without them turning away. My DSLR broke down and luckily I bought an automatic camera as a backup before we left.

Kiddoes had so much fun at the Century Park just cycling this contraption.  Hee hee...

We went to this amusement park 40 kms outside Shanghai when it was apparent to us there was not much to do in Shanghai.  Met a very friendly Singaporean family there and we became firm friends and they took us out for dinners and all.  Thanks S and co.

Inside - a total copy of Disneyland.  Hee hee...

Kids screamed their heads off this ride.  There were loads of different rides there and we spent practically the whole day there.  There was even a 4D theatre which we did not have time for and a VERTICAL drop roller coaster.

The Seven Treasure Old Town.  One of the most MUST-SEEs in Shanghai.  Loads of traditional fare and thoroughly enjoyed this place.

Loads of different type of glutinous cakes,  snacks and hubby's favourite - smelly tofu.  Def not my cup of tea.. ooops.. tofu.

Check out the size of this pancake!  Amazing.  Sean ate it up!

Very beautiful scenery here.

Our new found friends in Shanghai brought us to eat and watch the face-changing act.  This act I was told - is a national treasure and the whole thing is protected by law.  The only outsider that these masters have taught is actor Andy Low and even then,  he was only taught a mere 3 moves.  It was difficult to get a nice photo as they have placed lights to counteract the cameras.  Sigh...

Kiddoes enjoying the snow.

This is the view that we had from the Hyatt coffee house which at 87 stories high,  is one of the highest coffee lounges.

Thats it for some insight into Shanghai.
