Bearybox Layout Challenge no 27

Feeling a little parched from the lack of scrapping, I have decided to follow a few sketches to regain some of my MOJO.  As usual,  I headed off to the Bearybox sketch to try it out.

Her is my simple take of the sketch.  Jessy took the photos of Sean way back in 2007 and I have scrapped these photos.  As an Asian parent,  I always try to resist getting "sucked up" by parents who only expect good grades from their kids and neglect the element of PLAY.  I want to make sure that I remember that a lot of good does come out of play and I should not be basing my kids' successes by the number of As they score.  After all - my only goal is to have happy kids and not really smart ones but who is unable to adapt to social settings and worse still - have no manners...

The journalling goes:

Always remember to play.  When was the last time you had an enjoyable game?  If you quite playing because it is a child's spot,  then you are wrong.  As Bernard Shaw said:,  "We do not stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing."

I have copied this quote from the internet and its so apt.

Materials used:
{Scarlet Lime kit - GCD pp,  SEI pp, Chipboards at the corner - lost the names - my apologies,  the journal sticker and the swirl at the bottom},  Making Memories Boy Chipboard Tag,  K n Co, Situation spinner,  Sassafras lass cloud stickers,   Bazzill cs,  Zig pen for journalling and 3D pop up dots.

Crop for Anna

Firstly I must thank the 2 oganisers cum partners-in-crime - Nilla and Sharon for organising this cool crop and yummy lunch today for Anna's farewell.  Anna - you will be missed but always remember - goodbye is not forever.

Sharon shared this owl canvas with is and this is my take... Presenting Lola ladies.  Just think Barry Manilow when you see her - the song goes:

"Her name is Lola,  She was a showgal..."

Hee hee - for those who know what I am talking about... I had a great time today.  Ladies you really made my day especially when I haven't had enough sleep for a couple of nights....

More cards for charity

Been lying low - didn't feel like blogging nor creating. Guess I was on a break. But I managed to make some simple cards to donate to charity.  It was great digging into my old stuff and start to use them up.

How hungry are you?

This is definitely a question we should all ask ourselves.  The amount of food that goes to waste is phenomenal. Recently,  Oprah aired a show of people who just collect refuse to survive and it really hit home how privileged we are.  People are dying everyday from hunger and here we are  just throwing away food.

A friend of mine just sent me this video - I loved its simplicity and the stark truth of it all.  Please watch this when you have the time:

Synopsis: This film is about the hunger and poverty brought about by Globalization. There are 10,000 people dying everyday due to hunger and malnutrition. This short film shows a forgotten portion of the society. The people who live on the refuse of men to survive. What is inspiring is the hope and spirituality that never left this people.

The next time you order food,  just spare a thought if you can actually finish it. Thats my 2 pence worth...

Cards for charity

I am trying to challenge myself to make more cards and hopefully improve my skills at makinh cards.  I walked into Amanita the other day and the lady that runs it mentioned that they were going to hubby's hometown to donate a bra and prosthesis to some rubber tappers who has undergone breast mastectomy.  I proceeded to donate another pair and as I did, I am always amazed with the expat ladies or more commonly (Mat Sallehs) here in this country.  The amount of years I have stayed KL - I had the pleasure of meeting lots of very nice expat ladies who do so much volunteer work for us Malaysians.  Ladies - you know who you are and I salute all of you today for your efforts.

I guess trying to make a difference does hit home with me and I wish that I could do more.  I am thankful that at present - Jessy's work with Kampung Tekir has provided me a chance to do charity constantly and I know that the aid we render does reach to all these orang asli kids.

Hence,  to keep money flowing - I have decided to make cards to raise more funds.  Hope my friends don't get tired of me asking them for money.  Ladies - thanks for your support and rest assured that the money does get to the poor.

Happy Mother's Day everyone...

Me off to cook chinese porridge.  No rest for the wicked as they say... LOL...

Happy 9th Birthday Sean

This little munchkin turns 9 today.  Mummy is a little nostalgic.  I managed to dig up some photos and these are what I have on the Mac.  Man - he is growing up so fast!

He has always been a cheeky monkey.

Love this particular photo as he looks so so so happy here...

Awkward moment when he was losing his teeth.

Playing Ninja.

Had fun as Mr Tin Man.

Showing off his teeth as usual.

His birthday cupcakes.

Whizzing through the air.

Sean chilling with his sidekick Izzie...
